Abstract:
It is well recognized that chemotherapy treatments can result in toxic side effects, some of which can be life threatening, such as bone marrow suppression causing neutropenia, thrombocytopaenia, and/or anaemia. These effects place patients at an increased risk of infection when having peripheral cannula placed for intravenous (IV) therapies. The issues surrounding infection control are therefore of particular significance when caring for this patient group.
