Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify risk factors for voiding dysfunction within one month after anti-incontinence surgery.
  • To analyze patient demographics, surgical procedures, and outcomes related to voiding function.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of 903 women undergoing anti-incontinence surgery.
  • Evaluation of patient demographics, urodynamic parameters, pelvic organ prolapse (POP) stage, and surgical details.
  • Definition of postoperative voiding dysfunction as post-void residual urine >100 cc on two successive trials.

Main Results:

  • Several factors were associated with voiding dysfunction, including age, menopausal status, urodynamic parameters, POP stage, and concomitant surgery.
  • Multivariate analysis identified concomitant anterior colporrhaphy as the sole independent predictor.
  • Concomitant anterior colporrhaphy showed a significant association (OR 2.4; 95% CI 1.38-4.11).

Conclusions:

  • Concomitant anterior colporrhaphy is the most significant risk factor for postoperative voiding dysfunction.
  • This finding can help clinicians anticipate and manage potential complications in patients undergoing anti-incontinence surgery, particularly those with concurrent prolapse repair.
