Background:

  • A 51-year-old male with ESRI and 10 years of hemodialysis presented with bone pain.
  • Physical examination revealed no other specific symptoms or findings.

Findings:

  • Whole-body bone scintigraphy (HMDP-99mTc) demonstrated increased radiotracer uptake in the lungs, stomach, and renal parenchyma.
  • These findings were consistent with metastatic calcification.

Implications:

  • Bone scintigraphy's high sensitivity is beneficial for detecting early metastatic calcification.
  • It serves as a useful tool for initial evaluation and ongoing monitoring of high-risk ESRI patients.
