Summary

Parkinson's disease patients experiencing multi-modal hallucinations do not show greater neuropsychological impairment compared to those with single-modal hallucinations. This finding suggests similar cognitive risks regardless of hallucination type in Parkinson's disease.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate whether multi-modal hallucinations are associated with greater neuropsychological dysfunction in idiopathic Parkinson's disease.
  • To compare cognitive performance between PD patients with visual-only hallucinations and those with multi-modal hallucinations.

Main Methods:

  • 152 idiopathic PD patients were assessed.
  • Patients were categorized based on the presence or absence of hallucinations.
  • Subgroups included visual-only (VHonly) and multi-modal (VHplus) hallucination groups.
  • Detailed neuropsychological assessments were conducted for all participants.
