Abstract:
A battery of confirmatory and complementary in vitro assays was used to investigate a series of surfactants with different irritancy potentials, as confirmed by human skin patch testing. This was found to distinguish between sodium lauryl sulfate and its analogues, and when further tested on formulations the battery of assays was again capable of predicting the human data.
