Summary

Revision trabeculectomy using a posterior approach effectively lowers intraocular pressure (IOP) long-term. This glaucoma surgery shows good safety and efficacy, reducing the need for medication.

Noncomparative analysis of intraocular pressure (IOP) and medication use.

Main Results:

Mean IOP decreased significantly from baseline (21.5 mmHg) to 11.2 mmHg at 1 year and 8 mmHg at 5 years.
High probability of maintaining IOP ≤ 15 mmHg without medication: 95% at 1 year, 84% at 5 years.
85% of patients were off glaucoma medication at last follow-up; low complication rate (e.g., 7% choroidal effusions).

Conclusions:

The posterior approach for revision trabeculectomy is effective for long-term IOP control.
This surgical revision technique demonstrates a favorable safety profile.
Successful revision surgery can reduce or eliminate the need for antiglaucoma medications.
