    Abstract:

    A simple method is described that yields, in reflective optics as well as in Fourier-transformin frared spectrometers,a beam of bright visible light coincident with the invisible infrared beam so that foci and beam locations can be checked easily.

    There are two main infrared (IR) spectrophotometers: dispersive IR spectrometers and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometers. In a dispersive IR spectrometer, a beam of infrared radiation produced by a hot wire is divided into two parallel equal-intensity beams using mirrors.
