[Balloon-catheter devices for selective administration of drugs into portal veins]

A balloon-catheter device was designed by means of which part of an organ or zone of the abdominal cavity can be isolated for their administration of medicinal preparations for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The authors suggested a new method for regional perfusion-infusion in diffuse and local diseases of the liver and the organs of the pancreaticoduodenal zone. It makes it possible to supply the drug to the pathological process by the drip and stream method at a rate similar to that of physiological blood flow. The method was used in a complex with surgery in 73 patients with diffuse and localized diseases of the pancreas, liver, biliary system, and spleen. The result was positive in 60 patients. The method is recommended for application in surgical clinics engaged in the management of abdominal pathology.
