Area of Science:

  • Vascular Imaging
  • Diagnostic Ultrasound
  • Medical Technology

Background:

  • Non-invasive vascular diagnosis is crucial for patient management.
  • Conventional arteriography carries risks and limitations.
  • Emerging ultrasound technologies offer potential improvements.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of two-dimensional echography (B-scan) in vascular diagnosis.
  • To compare B-scan with other non-invasive methods and arteriography.
  • To highlight the utility of the Biosound system for detecting early vascular changes.

Main Methods:

  • Personal experience with two-dimensional echography (B-scan).
  • Real-time Doppler ultrasonography applied over 18 months.
  • Involvement of 147 carotid arteries and 88 lower extremities.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Comparison of results with conventional arteriography.
  • Main Results:

    • Two-dimensional echography demonstrates advantages over rheography, photoplethysmography, and Doppler measurement.
    • The Biosound system effectively identifies small, initial parietal changes.
    • Ultrasonography results were validated against conventional arteriography.

    Conclusions:

    • Two-dimensional echography (B-scan) is a valuable tool for vascular diagnosis.
    • Early detection of carotid artery changes using B-scan is critical.
    • This non-invasive technique provides a reliable alternative to conventional arteriography.
