True linear psoriasis, a rare condition, presented in a young girl with generalized, asymptomatic, scaly plaques following Blaschko

Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Genetics
  • Immunology

Background:

  • Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition.
  • Linear lesions along Blaschko's lines suggest mosaicism or genetic anomalies.
  • Psoriasiform plaques are characteristic of psoriasis.

Observation:

  • A 10-year-old girl presented with congenital psoriasiform plaques.
  • She later developed generalized, asymptomatic, scaly plaques in linear bands along Blaschko's lines.
  • Clinical and histopathologic features were consistent with psoriasis.

Findings:

  • The patient's presentation and HLA (CW6,A2) association confirmed a diagnosis of psoriasis.
  • The linear arrangement of lesions along Blaschko's lines is a rare manifestation.
  • This case supports the existence of true linear psoriasis.

Related Experiment Videos

Implications:

  • Understanding rare presentations of psoriasis is crucial for accurate diagnosis.
  • Linear psoriasis may offer insights into genetic mosaicism in dermatoses.
  • Further research into the pathogenesis of linear psoriasis is warranted.
