Context:

Arterio-venous leg ulcers represent a significant clinical challenge.
Understanding the underlying physiological changes is crucial for effective treatment.

Purpose:

To investigate blood oxygenation levels in patients with arterio-venous leg ulcers.
To determine if elevated 2,3-biphosphoglycerate correlates with reduced oxygen pressure.

Summary:

A study of 30 patients with arterio-venous leg ulcers revealed significantly higher blood levels of 2,3-biphosphoglycerate (10.33 mumol/ml) compared to controls (5.16 mumol/ml).
This statistically significant difference (p < 0.001) suggests decreased blood oxygen pressure in both the leg ulcer tissue and the entire body.
