Abstract:
Urinary infections are the most frequent ones in males second to viral acute respiratory infections. There is a high incidence of association to urethral stenosis. Urethral stenosis, whether congenital or acquired, conditions urinary stasis, with urethro-vesical-canaliculus-glandular mictional reflux resulting in urinary infection. Besides, urinary infection is a major etiological factor in the genesis of urethral stenosis, up to 26-30% of which can be directly attributable to post-infection conditions. The present work analyses the incidence of urinary infection in a group of 175 patients diagnosed with male urethral stenosis. Sixty-three patients (36%) presented infection, of which 90% were single microorganism infections, 44% being caused by E. coli. As a result of urethral stenosis associated to urinary infection, there were 56 complications in 42 patients (67%) which required 19 surgical interventions.
