Lateral-PLIF for Lumbar Spinal Arthrodesis: A Detailed Step-By-Step Surgical Technique

  • Patients were assessed pre- and post-operatively using visual analogue pain and Oswestry disability scales, and a satisfaction scale.
  • Main Results:

    • Significant reduction in pain scores (VAS 9.1 to 2.3) and Oswestry disability (47% to 21%).
    • High interbody healing rates confirmed at 6-month follow-up.
    • Excellent patient satisfaction (9.2/10) at two-year follow-up.
    • Low complication rate (2/36), including one vascular injury and one transient retrograde ejaculation.

    Conclusions:

    • Minimally-invasive circumferential arthrodesis is an effective treatment for degenerative disc disease.
    • The technique achieves high rates of interbody healing and functional recovery.
    • This approach offers a low complication profile for selected DDD patients.
