Objective:
To summarize the regulations of Hedgehog signaling pathway on the proliferation and multi-differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs).
Methods:
The related literature in recent years concerning the regulations of Hedgehog signaling pathway on the biological characteristics of MSCs was reviewed and analyzed.
Results:
Hedgehog signaling pathway promoted the proliferation of MSCs, and played a major role in the induction of osteogenic and chondrogenic differentiations, but it inhibited the adipocytic differentiation.
Conclusion:
The regulations of Hedgehog signaling pathway in MSCs multi-differentiation and proliferation could be used as the new therapeutic targets of tissue ischemia, osteoporosis, achondroplasia, obesity, and so on.
