Background:

  • Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a complex autoimmune disease characterized by widespread microvascular damage and fibrosis.
  • Vestibular dysfunction can significantly impact patient quality of life, yet its prevalence in SSc is not well-defined.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the prevalence of vestibular dysfunction in patients with SSc.
  • To explore the correlation between vestibular impairment and clinical disease parameters, including microvascular involvement.

Main Methods:

  • Computerized dynamic platform posturography (CDP) was used to assess vestibular function in 30 SSc patients and 29 healthy controls.
  • Nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC) was employed to evaluate microvascular status.
  • Clinical and instrumental investigations assessed disease parameters like skin, lung, and renal involvement.

Main Results:

  • Subtle vestibular dysfunction was identified in 33% of SSc patients, with significantly lower vestibular ratio values compared to controls (P=0.01).

Conclusions:
