Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Dermatology

Background:

  • Angiosarcoma is a rare vascular malignancy.
  • Eyelid involvement is exceptionally uncommon, with only 8 prior documented cases.
  • This study presents two additional cases of eyelid angiosarcoma.

Observation:

  • One case was a primary eyelid angiosarcoma, while the second was a recurrence.
  • Both lesions were deceptively inconspicuous.
  • The actual extent of the tumors during micrographic surgery was significantly underestimated based on initial appearance.

Findings:

  • Despite achieving wide surgical margins, adjuvant radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, aggressive tumor behavior was observed.
  • One patient succumbed to distant metastasis.

Anterior High-Resolution Optical Coherence Tomography in the Diagnosis and Therapeutic Monitoring of Ocular Surface Squamous Neoplasia

  • The second patient experienced distant cutaneous recurrences within a year of treatment.
  • Implications:

    • Eyelid angiosarcoma, though rare, presents a significant clinical challenge due to its potential for aggressive behavior and recurrence.
    • Early and accurate diagnosis is crucial, despite the inconspicuous nature of the lesions.
    • Multidisciplinary treatment approaches are necessary, but the prognosis remains guarded, highlighting the need for further research into effective therapeutic strategies.
