Summary

This study reports the first canine case of ameloblastic fibroma, a rare odontogenic tumor. The tumor featured mesenchymal cells and odontogenic epithelium, highlighting its unique histology in veterinary medicine.

Background:

Ameloblastic fibroma is a rare odontogenic tumor typically found in young humans.
This tumor arises from the epithelial and mesenchymal components of developing teeth.

Observation:

A 4-year-old Golden Retriever presented with a rostral maxillary gingival mass.
Incisional biopsy revealed a tumor consistent with ameloblastic fibroma.

Findings:

Histopathology showed poorly differentiated, vimentin-positive mesenchymal cells surrounding islands of odontogenic epithelium.
The odontogenic epithelium islands exhibited variable coexpression of pancytokeratin and vimentin.
This represents the first documented case of ameloblastic fibroma in a dog.
