Summary

This study found no significant clinical differences in Sevoflurane efficacy when used from different vials during anesthesia. While generic Sevoflurane showed slightly faster patient awakening, overall clinical behavior remained consistent across groups.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the clinical efficacy of Sevoflurane when packaged in different vial types.
  • To determine if variations in vial manufacturing affect patient outcomes during anesthesia.

Main Methods:

  • A randomized study involving 64 adult patients divided into two groups.
  • Two Datex-Ohmeda vaporizers were used, one with Generic Sevoflurane and the other with Sevorane™.
  • Standardized anesthetic techniques and comprehensive patient monitoring (ECG, SpO₂, BIS, etc.) were applied to both groups.

Main Results:

  • No significant differences in clinical parameters were observed between the groups during anesthesia.
  • A statistically significant difference was noted in the time to spontaneous eye opening and handgrip on verbal command post-Sevoflurane interruption.
  • No significant difference was found in achieving an Aldrete-Kroulik index of 8 or higher.

Conclusions:

  • Sevoflurane efficacy is comparable across different vial types during anesthesia.
  • While generic Sevoflurane demonstrated a trend towards faster awakening, anesthesiologists did not perceive any clinical behavioral differences in patients.
