Adding intravenous atropine to submaximal exercise stress testing significantly improves the detection of myocardial perfusion abnormalities using single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). This enhanced SPECT imaging reveals ischemia in one-third of patients who would otherwise appear normal.
