A new formulation prediction system aids in monolithic osmotic pump tablet (MOPT) development. This system, using ternary-component diagrams, improves experiment efficiency and predicts optimal MOPT formulations.
Area of Science:
- Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Drug Delivery Systems
Background:
- Monolithic osmotic pump tablets (MOPTs) require precise formulation for controlled drug release.
- Optimizing MOPT formulations can be complex and time-consuming.
Purpose of the Study:
- To design and evaluate a novel formulation prediction system for MOPTs.
- To enhance the efficiency of MOPT formulation studies.
Main Methods:
- Ternary-component diagrams were used to define optimal formulation regions for MOPTs.
- A triangular prism model was created using MATLAB software, incorporating dose and five ternary diagrams.
- Formulation Prediction Software (FPS 1.0) was developed and its practicality validated.
Main Results:
- The system, using an interpolation algorithm, rapidly identified optimal formulation regions for MOPTs.
- Dissolution tests confirmed that four randomly selected formulations met all evaluation criteria.
Conclusions:
- Ternary-component diagrams are effective tools for optimizing MOPT formulations.
- The developed prediction system demonstrates tentative predictive ability and significantly improves experimental efficiency.
