Summary

Cylindrical cell papillomas, rare sinonasal tumors, can cause eustachian tube obstruction in adults. Wide endoscopic excision is recommended for effective treatment and to rule out coexistent carcinoma.

Background:

  • Cylindrical cell papillomas are uncommon neoplasms typically found in the sinonasal area.
  • This case highlights a rare occurrence in the nasopharynx.

Observation:

  • A 56-year-old male presented with a four-month history of right-sided hearing loss, otalgia, vertigo, and tinnitus.
  • A soft, nodular lesion was identified, obstructing the right eustachian tube opening.

Findings:

  • The lesion was diagnosed as a nasopharyngeal cylindrical cell papilloma.
  • Wide endoscopic excision was performed as the treatment modality.

Implications:

  • Cylindrical cell papilloma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of adult eustachian tube obstruction.
  • Prompt and complete surgical resection is crucial to prevent recurrence and detect any associated malignancy.
