Transient "sicca syndrome" during phenobarbital treatment

Phenobarbital, an epilepsy drug, may cause Sjogren-like symptoms. This case report suggests considering drug-induced disorders when patients on barbiturates develop these symptoms.

- Normal serum drug levels did not preclude the development of this adverse event.

- Clinicians should consider phenobarbital as a potential cause of Sjogren-like symptoms in patients treated with barbiturates.
