Calculation and usage of the thyroid to background ratio on the pertechnetate thyroid scan

A higher thyroid to background (T:B) ratio on thyroid scintigraphy indicates a higher risk of treatment failure in hyperthyroid cats receiving radioactive iodine (131I) therapy. This finding helps predict which cats may require a higher 131I dose for successful treatment.
