Nurses are more likely to use electronic intensive care unit (eICU) technology when they perceive it as useful. Perceived usefulness is driven by ease of use, physician support, and experience.

Background:

Electronic intensive care unit (eICU) technology offers potential benefits for patient care and workflow efficiency.
Understanding nurses' adoption intentions is crucial for successful implementation of eICU systems.

Purpose of the Study:

To identify factors influencing nurses' intention to use eICU technology.
To assess the applicability of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) for eICU adoption.
To validate the psychometric properties of the measurement scales used.

Main Methods:

A modified Telemedicine Technology Acceptance Model was employed.
The eICU Acceptance Survey, based on TAM, was administered to 117 nurses across two healthcare systems.
Content validity and reliability of the survey instrument were evaluated.

Main Results:

Perceived usefulness was the strongest predictor of nurses' intention to use eICU technology.
Perceived ease of use, physician support, and years of hospital experience significantly influenced perceived usefulness.
The model explained 58% of the variance in intention to use eICU technology.

Conclusions:

The Technology Acceptance Model provides a valid framework for understanding nurses' adoption of eICU technology.
Interventions aimed at enhancing perceived usefulness, ease of use, and physician support are recommended for promoting eICU adoption.
Future research should continue to explore factors influencing technology adoption in critical care settings.
