FDG-PET/CT imaging of elastofibroma dorsi

Purpose of the Study:
- To retrospectively evaluate the characteristics of Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in elastofibroma dorsi using integrated Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT).

- Analysis of 46 FDG-PET/CT scans from 34 patients with findings suggestive of elastofibroma dorsi.
- Visual grading of FDG uptake intensity (0-3 scale) and calculation of Standardized Uptake Value (SUV).
- Assessment of correlations between SUV, age, blood glucose, lesion size, and symptoms.
Main Results:
- Out of 75 lesions, 41 showed grade 1 (less than liver uptake) and 25 showed grade 2 (comparable to liver uptake).
- Mean SUV was 2.0 ± 0.63, with weak positive correlation to lesion size, and no correlation with age or glucose levels.
- SUV values were similar in symptomatic and asymptomatic patients.
Conclusions:
- Elastofibroma dorsi frequently exhibits mild to moderate FDG uptake on PET/CT.
- This characteristic uptake pattern can help prevent misinterpretation as malignant accumulation.
