Aminosidine sulfate effectively treats acute diarrheal syndrome in children caused by histolytic ameba. This clinical study evaluates aminosidine
Area of Science:
- Pediatric infectious diseases
- Gastroenterology
- Clinical pharmacology
Background:
- Acute diarrheal syndrome is a common pediatric illness.
- Histolytic ameba remains a significant etiological agent in gastroenteritis.
- Aminosidine sulfate is an antibiotic with potential antiprotozoal activity.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of aminosidine sulfate in children with acute diarrheal syndrome.
- To assess the role of histolytic ameba in pediatric gastroenteritis.
- To determine the clinical-therapeutic action of aminosidine sulfate.
Main Methods:
- A clinical-therapeutic assay was conducted.
- The study involved children admitted to a pediatric teaching hospital.
- Patients were treated with aminosidine sulfate.
Main Results:
- The study presents findings on the clinical-therapeutic assay.
- Aminosidine sulfate was administered to children with acute diarrheal syndrome.
- The therapeutic action of aminosidine was evaluated in this cohort.
Conclusions:
- Histolytic ameba is a relevant cause of gastroenteritis in children.
- Aminosidine sulfate demonstrated therapeutic action in the evaluated cases.
- Further evaluation of aminosidine sulfate for amebic gastroenteritis is warranted.
Abstract:
A clinical-therapeutic assay carried out at the "William Soler" pediatric teaching hospital in children admitted due to an acute diarrheic syndrome and treated with aminosidine sulfate is presented. Histolytic ameba is still an element to be considered in the origin of gastroenteritis. The therapeutic action of aminosidine is evaluated.
