Proinflammatory cytokine gene polymorphisms in Behçet's disease

Genetic variations in tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) genes are linked to Behçet's disease (BD). Specific TNF-α genotypes and haplotypes were more common in BD patients, suggesting a genetic predisposition.

Conclusions:
- Specific TNF-α gene polymorphisms (G/G genotype, GG haplotype) are over-represented in BD patients.
- Certain IL-6 gene variants (C/G genotype, CG haplotype) are less frequent in BD patients.
- These cytokine gene polymorphisms may contribute to the genetic predisposition and pathogenesis of Behçet's disease.
