Summary

Pregnancy in multiple myeloma patients is rare. This study reports 6 new cases where mothers received chemotherapy during pregnancy, with newborns showing no malformations and no late complications observed in children over 3 years old.

Establishment of a Human Multiple Myeloma Xenograft Model in the Chicken to Study Tumor Growth, Invasion and Angiogenesis

  • Newborn assessment for malformations and long-term follow-up of children were conducted.
  • Main Results:

    • Six pregnancies in multiple myeloma patients were identified.
    • All newborns (3 male, 3 female) had birth weights >2500g and no fetal malformations.
    • No late complications were observed in children during follow-up periods exceeding 3 years.
    • Three mothers underwent stem cell transplantation.

    Conclusions:

    • Pregnancy is possible in multiple myeloma patients, even with chemotherapy.
    • Chemotherapy during pregnancy, including the first trimester, did not result in fetal malformations in this cohort.
    • Long-term outcomes for children born to mothers with multiple myeloma treated during pregnancy appear favorable.
