Summary

This study developed a new animal model for ectopy-induced cardiomyopathy. Coupled pacing in dogs led to enlarged left ventricles and reduced heart function, offering insights into this condition.

  • Paced dogs (n=6) showed significant increases in LV end-diastolic and end-systolic diameters (P < 0.01).
  • Left ventricular ejection fraction significantly decreased in paced dogs (P < 0.05).

Conclusions:

  • Coupled pacing simulating ventricular bigeminy is a feasible method to induce cardiomyopathy in an animal model.
  • This model allows for the study of factors influencing ectopy-induced cardiomyopathy.
