[Surgical treatment of drug resistant epilepsy]
1Neurologische Klinik und Poliklinik, Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.
Abstract:
Even today, epilepsy is resistant to conservative treatment in a certain number of patients. In many of these cases surgical treatment is a meaningful alternative. The most important procedure is the resection of the epileptogenic focus. Thus, surgical treatment is only possible if the preoperative evaluation of the patient reveals a focus in a resectable area of the brain. In this article the modern electrophysiological, nuclear medical and neuroradiological diagnostic procedures, together with the various surgical procedures of surgery for epilepsy are presented.
