Summary

Acupuncture may help restore consciousness in patients with hypoxic encephalopathy following carbon monoxide poisoning. This complementary therapy improved a patient's Glasgow Coma Scale score from 7 to 15.

  • The patient experienced acute respiratory failure secondary to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Findings:

  • Acupuncture therapy, including abdominal, scalp, body, and foot acupuncture, was administered as an adjunct to conventional treatment.
  • The patient's Glasgow Coma Scale score improved from 7 to 15 after 2 months of acupuncture treatment.
  • Regained consciousness and improved neurological function were observed post-acupuncture.
