Area of Science:

  • Pediatric Oncology
  • Surgical Pathology
  • Urologic Oncology

Background:

  • Primary paratesticular neuroblastoma is an exceptionally rare pediatric malignancy.
  • Only four cases have been previously documented in medical literature.

Observation:

  • The authors present two new cases of primary paratesticular neuroblastoma in asymptomatic 6-month-old boys.
  • Both patients presented with stage I disease and showed no recurrence after 2 and 10 years of follow-up.

Findings:

  • Frozen section analysis is recommended for presumptive diagnosis of paratesticular neuroblastoma, aiding in clinical and laboratory parameters.
  • Accurate diagnosis is crucial to avoid unnecessary overtreatment, such as orchiectomy.

Implications:

  • Primary paratesticular neuroblastoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of paratesticular masses in young children.
  • Prompt diagnosis and appropriate management yield a typically favorable prognosis.
