Background:

  • Social phobia is a common anxiety disorder with potential neuroendocrine underpinnings.
  • The hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis is a key neuroendocrine system that regulates metabolism and mood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis function in patients diagnosed with social phobia.
  • To determine if thyroid hormone levels or thyroid autoantibodies are associated with social phobia.
  • To assess the TSH response to TRH stimulation in individuals with social phobia compared to controls.

  • Blood samples were collected to measure plasma levels of triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), free T4, and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).
