Summary

Stapedotomy surgery offers excellent hearing outcomes, but revision surgery can improve long-term success rates for cases with persistent or recurring conductive hearing loss. Revision procedures achieve closure in 52% of cases.

To assess the medium to long-term success of stapedotomy, including revision procedures.

A 20-year review of 233 primary stapedotomy operations.
Analysis of 100 revision stapedotomy procedures performed by a single surgeon.

Primary stapedotomy achieved air-bone gap closure within 10 dB in 80% of cases.
