[Relationship between C-reactive protein gene polymorphaisms and chronic periodontitis]

Genetic variations in C-reactive protein (CRP) +1059G/C and +1444C/T were studied in relation to chronic periodontitis. While allele presence affected CRP levels, these specific polymorphisms were not significantly linked to the disease in Han Chinese individuals.

Main Results:
- Mean serum CRP levels were significantly higher in the CP group compared to controls (P < 0.001).
- In controls, CRP +1059G/C genotypes influenced serum CRP levels (P < 0.01), and in both groups, CRP +1444C/T genotypes affected CRP levels (P < 0.5).
- No significant differences in allele frequencies or association between CRP polymorphisms and CP were found using regression analysis (P > 0.5).
Conclusions:
- The CRP +1059C allele was linked to lower serum CRP, and the +1444T allele to higher serum CRP.
- However, the CRP +1059G/C and +1444C/T polymorphisms were not significantly associated with chronic periodontitis in this Han Chinese cohort.
