Insights
Photodynamic therapy effectively treated circumscribed choroidal hemangioma with subfoveal exudation in three patients. This approach offers a promising therapeutic option for this condition.
Area of Science:
- Ophthalmology
- Medical Imaging
- Oncology
Background:
- Circumscribed choroidal hemangioma is a rare benign vascular tumor.
- Subfoveal exudation can lead to significant vision loss.
Purpose of the Study:
- To describe clinical characteristics of patients with circumscribed choroidal hemangioma and subfoveal exudation.
- To evaluate the efficacy of photodynamic therapy in treating this condition.
Main Methods:
- Case report of three patients.
- Diagnosis confirmed by optical coherence tomography.
- Treatment with photodynamic therapy.
Main Results:
- Successful treatment outcomes in all three patients.
- Optical coherence tomography demonstrated resolution of subfoveal exudation post-therapy.
Conclusions:
- Photodynamic therapy is a suitable treatment for circumscribed choroidal hemangioma with subfoveal exudation.
- Further research is needed to optimize treatment parameters.
Case Reports:
The clinical characteristics of three patients with circumscribed choroidal haemangioma and subfoveal exudation detected by optical coherence tomography are described in this paper. The three patients were successfully treated with photodynamic therapy.
Discussion:
Photodynamic therapy is the most adequate therapeutic option for circumscribed choroidal hemangioma associated with subfoveal exudation. Some questions such as whether attempts should be made to obtain a complete tumour regression, laser settings or the way the spots must be applied remain unresolved.
