NSAID gastropathy, misoprostol, and the standard of care

This medicolegal presentation is designed to introduce the legal notion of the standard of care as it pertains to potential legal exposure. The medical topics of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID) therapy, NSAID gastropathy, and misoprostol are discussed in relation to the standard of care. The legal theories of informed consent and informed refusal are presented as they apply to this issue. A few simple commonsense points are offered for practice integration.
