Abstract:
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a new way of removing the gallbladder using laparoscopic surgical techniques. The indications are the same as for open cholecystectomy, and almost all cholecystectomies can be done this way. The advantages are reduced pain, and shorter hospitalization and convalescence. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is now the treatment of choice for symptomatic gallstones.
