Accurate identification of lymph node metastasis is essential for determining prognosis and guiding therapy.
The sentinel lymph node (SLN) is the primary site of cancer cell spread from the primary tumor.

Purpose:

To evaluate the predictive value of the sentinel lymph node (SLN) procedure in the staging of non-metastatic colon cancer.
To compare the efficacy of standard hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) staining with immunohistochemistry (IHC) for detecting micrometastases in SLNs.

Summary:

A prospective study included 14 eligible patients with T2-T3 colon adenocarcinoma.
Standard H&E staining detected metastases in 4 cases, while IHC identified occult micrometastases in 2 additional cases (20% of eligible patients).
