Abstract:
Calcitonin-gene-related peptide (CGRP) is one of the recently discovered endogenous peptides with potent cardiovascular effects in humans and in animals. Its powerful vasodilating action in addition to its direct positive inotropic effect on the heart, plus its presence in perivascular nerve endings in the heart and the latest demonstration of specific receptors in the human heart, suggest important physiologic and therapeutic roles for CGRP in cardiovascular diseases.
