An approach to limiting the adverse effects of therapy for hypertension in the elderly
Abstract:
This paper raises questions pertaining to the possible benefits and undesirable side-effects of drug treatment for high blood pressure in the elderly. The importance of careful monitoring of elderly patients on hypotensive medication is emphasized, and recent findings in this area of treatment are reviewed. Decisions about the use of hypotensive medication in the elderly patient should be made jointly by a knowledgeable physician and an informed patient.
