Squamous cell carcinoma arising from a chronic osteomyelitis of the ankle region

Prolonged, persistent infection may, on occasion, develop into malignant pathology. Dr. Wu describes a case where squamous cell carcinoma resulted from open reduction of an ankle fracture. The pathology may initiate from the epithelialized lining of the sinus tract and bone cavity.
