Competence was assessed via an objective structured clinical skills examination with standardized marking and global ratings.

Main Results:

Students demonstrated a high standard of rectal examination technique (mean 85.1%).
No significant differences were found between groups for technique score or adequacy.
The group using the fist mimic scored significantly higher for gentleness (p<0.05).

Conclusions:

The clenched fist mimic technique is a simple, practical method to improve the gentleness of rectal examinations.
This approach can enhance medical students' confidence in performing rectal examinations.
The technique promotes patient comfort by encouraging a more appropriate and gentle examination approach.
