    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the risk of silicosis in workers with a history of kaolin exposure.
    • To assess airborne dust levels and silica content in kaolin processing and firebrick manufacturing environments.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective study of nine patients with disabling pneumoconiosis and kaolin exposure history.

    • A prevalence survey in Missouri is recommended to fully assess the extent of silicosis in the affected workforce.
