The role of immittance audiometry in detecting middle ear disease
Abstract:
IMMITTANCE AUDIOMETRY IS AN OBJECTIVE TECHNIQUE WHICH EVALUATES MIDDLE EAR FUNCTION BY THREE PROCEDURES: static immittance, tympanometry, and the measurement of acoustic reflex threshold sensitivity. This article discusses the technique's ability to identify middle ear effusion, the single leading ear disease in children.A comparison of immittance screening and traditional pure tone audiometry was conducted on 311 school aged children. The results of this study reveal the superiority of immittance audiometry in detecting middle ear pathology.
