Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and interferon-alfa (IFNα) therapy can trigger autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITD). Routine thyroid screening is recommended for HCV patients on IFNα to detect and manage interferon-induced thyroiditis (IIT).
