As it happened: the 'instinctive' diagnosis
Abstract:
The "instinctive" diagnosis is often the first step in problem solving. This instinct, of course, is more than just an unfounded feeling; it is based on the physician's previous experience. The instinctive diagnosis must be confirmed, so the physician orders tests to prove his diagnosis. The trouble is that at times these tests are ambiguous and misleading. How instinct, evidence and truth can interplay is the subject of this presentation.
