Summary

PHEX gene mutations cause hypophosphatemic rickets. This study found that reduced PHEX protein expression in mice significantly inhibits dentin formation, while enamel formation is only slightly affected.

  • Immunohistochemistry was employed to determine the spatiotemporal distribution and expression levels of PHEX protein in tooth germs at various developmental stages (E16, E18, P1, P3).

    • Dentin formation and odontoblast differentiation were significantly inhibited.
