Vitamin D and hyperparathyroidism in obesity

Obesity is linked to lower vitamin D levels (serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D) and higher parathyroid hormone (serum PTH). Weight, not vitamin D status, primarily determines these levels in women undergoing bariatric surgery.
