Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Genetics
  • Orthopedics

Background:

  • Achondroplastic patients commonly experience neurological deficits due to spinal canal stenosis.
  • Spinal dysraphism is a congenital anomaly of the spine.

Observation:

  • This report details a rare case of achondroplasia coexisting with a spinal dysraphic condition.
  • The patient presented with neurological complications.

Findings:

  • The neurological complications in this case were presumed to stem from the spinal dysraphic condition.
  • This challenges the typical understanding of neurological issues in achondroplasia.

Implications:

  • Highlights the importance of considering spinal dysraphism in achondroplasia patients with neurological symptoms.
  • Suggests a need for revised diagnostic approaches in complex cases.
  • Contributes to understanding the varied etiology of neurological complications in achondroplasia.
